WaterAid India

WaterAid India exists for a straightforward reason: millions of people still live without reliable access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. In many communities, that means daily trips to distant water sources, unsafe drinking water, and preventable illness. WaterAid works with local governments, engineers, and communities to change that. Their goal isn’t temporary aid—it’s lasting infrastructure that ensures safe water and sanitation become normal parts of daily life.

The Work

WaterAid India works with communities and public institutions to improve access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. Their programs focus on:

  • Building and rehabilitating clean water systems in underserved communities

  • Expanding access to safe toilets and sanitation infrastructure

  • Promoting hygiene education in schools and villages

  • Supporting rainwater harvesting and climate-resilient water systems

  • Partnering with local governments to strengthen public water services

  • Advocating for policies that expand long-term water access

Much of their work focuses on rural areas and rapidly growing urban settlements where water systems are strained or nonexistent.

The Spend

Funding supports water infrastructure, sanitation construction, hygiene education programs, engineering expertise, and community training. It also helps WaterAid work alongside local governments to develop sustainable water systems that can be maintained long after the original projects are completed.

When possible, support strengthens long-term infrastructure projects rather than temporary water delivery solutions.

The Impact

  • Millions of people across India have gained access to clean water through WaterAid-supported projects

  • Communities receive new or improved sanitation facilities that reduce disease transmission

  • Schools gain safe toilets and hygiene education programs that improve student health and attendance

  • Water systems designed for climate resilience help communities manage drought and seasonal water shortages

WaterAid publishes country reports, research, and impact data documenting these outcomes.

The Connection

We support WaterAid India because clean water and sanitation are foundational to health, education, and economic stability. Their work focuses on building systems that last – partnering with local communities and governments so improvements continue long after a project is completed.
